Oxford University






Oxford University of UK is an oldest university and worldwide famous. Its establishment date is not confirm but there is evidence of teaching as far as 1096. Oxford University motto is Dominus Illuminatio Mea (Latin) (The Lord is my light) Thirty-Eight constituent colleges are part of Oxford university and many academic department divided into four divisions. 22,116 students are studying in Oxford University including 11,772 undergraduate, 9,850 postgraduates and 494 other students.  Twenty seven Nobel laureates and twenty six British Prime Ministers are passed out from Oxford University.
There are 38 associate colleges of the Oxford University and six permanent private halls, to become a member of Oxford University, it is necessary for all students and most academic staff must a member of college or hall. In 1875 Oxford University passed a statute for women to allow the examinations at roughly undergraduate level.  

Oxford University has largest library system The Bodlean, in UK consisting of 11 million volumes. The Bodlean Library is founded by Sir Thomas Bodley in 1598 and opened in 1602. In 2000 The Bodlean Library Group was founded to bringing the bodlean library and some subject libraries together. Now Bodlean group is consist of 28 libraries.
A number of museum are maintaining by Oxford University that are free open for public. The oldest museum in UK is Ashmolean museum founded in 1683.
Oxford University Press is the world largest press by publications. Annually more than 6000 books are publishing by Oxford University Press.
Every student of Oxford University must have academic dress for examination, matriculation, disciplinary hiring and when visiting university officers. Colleges held major event is Balls and punting is common activity by students in summer.  Sports competition are usually held betweencolleges.
Students of Oxford University has also a Union “Oxford University Student Union”.
58 Noble Prize winners are from Oxford University as a faculty or student. Twenty six British Prime Ministers have studied at Oxford Univeristy.
Oxford University remains among top ten universities of the world in different league tables. Oxford is the regularly competitor in Uk with Cambridge University.
