Cambridge University





Cambridge University is one of the oldest universities of the world. It comes on number one among all universities situated in UK. Cambridge University is famous worldwide for its outstanding academic achievements.Cambridge University was founded in 1209, Cambridge celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2005. It is situated in UK, 30 miles away from Stansted airport. This is an honor for Cambridge University that still 89 Nobel prizewinners has passed out from there.  
Cambridgr university motto is Hinc lucem et pocula sacra (literal; From here, light and sacred draughts, non-literal; From this place we gain enlightenment and precious knowledge).
Cambridge University has 6645 academic staff, 3178 administrative staff, and 18271 students (including 11820 undergraduate and 6451 post-graduates).
Peterhouse was Cambridge’s first college in 1284 founded by Bishop of Ely and Hugh Balsham.
Only male students were eligible to study in Cambridge for many years but in 1869, first college for women was founded called Girton College.
Cambridge is formed from a compilation of institutions, which include 31 constituent colleges and over 100 academic departments structured into six Schools.  From 31 colleges three colleges allow admission only for women while remaining are mix.
Cambridge University has 114 libraries, Central research library is located at Cambridge University, consist of over 8 million volumes and in addition to the university library almost every faculty has its own library. Cambridge University has eight arts, cultural and scientific museums and a botanic garden. Cambridge University has its own press and it is oldest printer and publisher in the world of education. 
Student’s news and culture magazine the Cambridge globalist regularly publish from university. Cambridge students also run a radio channel Cam FM that provides an opportunity to students to produce and host weekly shows, sport coverage, comedy and dramas.
Fifteen British Prime ministers, twenty-three foreign heads of government (including Pakistan, India, South Africa, Poland, Australia, France, Singapore, Srilanka, Malta and Jordan) at least nine monarchs, and three signatories of the United States Declaration of Independence has passed out from Cambridge. They all are well known and successful in their lives.
According to a report, Cambridge produces more PhDs per year other than any institution in UK.  
Rowing is popular sport in Cambridge and there are usually competitions of boat racing and bump race between colleges. 123 Olympic medalists are from Cambridge including 80 Gold medalists. Winton and Thring who was the inventor of modern football, George Mallory who was famous mountaineer and first man ever who reach the peak of Mount Everest, they all attended Cambridge University.
Bill Gates, Owner of Microsoft donated US$210 million to Cambridge university in 2000 to award the Gates scholarship for those students who outside the UK and seeking postgraduate studies in Cambridge.
Cambridge University’s academic year divided into three semesters, Michealmas term lasts from October to December, Lent term from January to March and Eastern term from April to June. This is necessary for graduate students to complete all nine terms consist of three years or twelve terms consist of four years for Master of Science, Engineering or Mathematics.
