Melbourne University is Australia’s best university. Melbourne University was founded in 1853. It was establish by Hugh Chiders, who was the auditor general and finance minister. Melbourne University’s first chancellor was Redmond Berry. In 2003 Melbourne university celebrated its 150th anniversary. Melbourne University has eleven academic units and there are
twelve residential colleges located in main campus. Its rank remains on no.1 in
Australia and no.33 in world top ranking of best universities.

Melbourne University has a big library who has 3.5 million
items including books, DVD, photographic slides, music scores, prints and as
well as other publication material. This library has three million visitors
every year.
Melbourne University has seven campuses across the Melbourne
and rural Victoria including Parkville campus. Its main campus is Parkville
campus that considers the heart of Melbourne University. Parkville campus has
situated for 160 years. Parkville campus
has 12 libraries consisting 3.6 million books and other stuff,150 plus student
clubs, 40 plus sporting clubs and 25 plus cafes. Seven Nobel laureates have
been student or faculty from Melbourne University.
Other campuses are Metropolitan Melbourne in Burnley where
horticulture courses are taught, South Bank campus where Performing Arts are
taught, Hawthorn campus where commerce courses are taught, Werribee campus
where Veternity science is taught. Creswick and Dookie campuses are located in regional
Victoria, they are used for forestry and agriculture respectively.
Melbourne University has 39 affiliated clubs, sports
activity is always favourite in Melbourne. Usually in mid- August Melbourne University’s
students celebrated “Prosh Week” during this week students involve in various
activities and winner team claimed “Prosh Week Trophy”.
Melbourne University is also associated with several art
institutions and three museums including Grainger museum having collection
of musical cultural artifact, The Medical
History Museum covering the history of medical profession in Victoria and the Harry
Brookes Allen Museum of Anatomy and Pathology where about 8000 specimen are
placed regarding to medical and other health sciences.
